Sail with us to the beautiful Aeolian Islands, well known for their incomparable coastal and underwater beauties and for one of the most species-rich seafloor in the Mediterranean. The Aeolian Islands are also called “the seven sisters”. Seven volcanic islands, each one different from the other one for landscapes and character, the perfect setting to spend a week sailing and chilling out.
Our tour starts from Lipari where, since 6:00pm on Saturday, our guests can get on board at the pier “La buona fonda”, in Marina Lunga, the first floating dock about 50 meters from the hydrofoil mooring dock. After cabins allocation and skipper’s briefing, let’s go everybody to the supermarket to buy drinks and food for the week! The first occasion to share some time with other crew members, excellent opportunity to start knowing each other.
In the evening, dinner in a typical Aeolian restaurant and walk through the streets of Lipari town center, animated by several bars with live music and outdoor seating. Sunday morning we will let go the moorings, probably after having popped up in the fish shop to buy some fresh fish. As soon as we’ll shove off, we’ll feel permeated with a new sense of freedom which will stay with us for the rest of the week. That kind of freedom that only the sailing boat and its intimate relationship with the sea can give you.
Let’s head first to the pumice quarries for a bath. Here the crystal clear and transparent water has the sapphire intense colors. Is there a better way to start your holiday? We’ll carry on with our trip going to Panarea, the most chic of the seven sisters. It’s a nine miles navigation that, if Aeolus will be favorable, we will perform it sailing, accompanied by the sounds generated by the wind and by the water breaking against the hull. The first stop will be at “Cala Junco”, nature reserve and beautiful setting for a relaxing bath.
In the afternoon, if the mistral breeze will allow that, we will sail again, maybe circumnavigating the island. Already close to the sunset, we will stop close to Dattilo, facing the town. The sunset will allow us to watch a breathtaking sight: the sunset warm light illuminates the small islands off Panarea (Dattilo, Lisca Bianca, Bottaro, Basiluzzo) and its colours are mixed with the sulfur yellow and the iron red characterizing their rocks, creating a unequaled lights show. Now everybody on land to have a walk in the little streets in the town and afterwards we will all meet for a drink at the Sushi Bar. Who wants could spend the night in the most famous nightclub of the Aeolian Islands, the Raya, alternatively, we will spend the night in Baia Milazzese, more sheltered and quiet bay.
Monday morning it will be the turn of Basiluzzo: with its basalts it offers a magnificent setting for a swim and for relaxing moments. Later on, we will head to “Iddu”, Stromboli, one of the most active volcanoes in Europe, an island of particular charm, where you can feel the earth breath, because of the explosions characterizing the volcano activity.
After sailing 10 miles we will be in the anchorage area, at S. Vincenzo’s feet, quaint town where you can appreciate the ancient Aeolian style. In the afternoon you can go ashore to visit the town.
We will meet all together for a drink to the Ingrid bar on a terrace with a beautiful view of the sea and of Strombolicchio, small island in front of Stromboli on which stands a lighthouse.
The evening will continue on the boat: dinner and then off to enjoy the show of “Sciara del Fuoco”, the side of the island from which you can see the volcano explosions, a stunning sight to experience first-hand… there are no words in fact, to describe what you can feel facing this nature’s manifestation.
Tuesday we will be devoted to Salina, the largest island of the Eolian archipelago after Lipari. In the morning we will head to Pollara. This bay, in the North West of Salina, it’s characterized by high cliff over the sea. In these beautiful places, Massimo Troisi chose to shoot several scenes of “Il Postino”, one of his most famous films. In its proximity you can also admire a splendid natural arch. We will stop here for the rest of the morning and after a bath, we will prepare a good lunch.
Refreshed by a relaxing post-lunch, we will move towards “Lingua”: half an hour of navigation and you can taste one of the nicest slush of the Aeolian Islands, the Alfredo’s one. We advise to choose the combination figs and mulberries, perhaps accompanied by cream and brioche…delicious!!
Once charged with new energies, who wants to stretch his legs can have a walk in the village of Santa Marina. For dinner you can choose either to go back to Lingua to enjoy “pane cunsatu”, one of the Sicilian specialties, or you can dine in one of the restaurants of Santa Marina, where you can also continue the night in one of the premises of the town.
Wednesday will sail to Filicudi, if we will be lucky we could see a school of dolphins or, why not, some sea turtle. These kind of encounters are indeed not uncommon and they are also very exciting events which will lead to a contact with nature that nowadays is not an everyday thing.
We will stop by Cape Graziano to fully enjoy the charm of the island. In the afternoon we will move to Pecorini a Mare, a picturesque fishing village. After a bath in front of the little village let’s go on land to the Saloon for a beer by the sea, maybe tasting some homemade specialties that local women sell in a makeshift but fun “outdoor fry shop”.
If lucky, our arrival could correspond with the stop at the pier of a few fishing boats. In this case you can buy some excellent swordfish for a dinner on the boat. Alternatively it’s possible to have dinner at the only one restaurant in the village: “La Sirena”.
On Thursday morning we will stay in Filicudi, but we will move near the “Canna”, a craggy outcrop of volcanic origin that rises from the water several hundred meters off the coast. Here you can anchor and enjoy the wonderful emerald water. It will surely be one of the baths which will remain engraved in your mind! In the early afternoon we will sail until arriving near Lipari’s sea stacks. Even here the coast has high cliff over the sea and it’s a great place where you can watch the sunset. We will use the last light of the day to move into Vulcano’s West Bay. There we will go ashore to drink and dance on the Black sand beach and to a walk in the town centre.
On Friday morning we will move to the west side of Vulcano. One of the most common stops is near Grotta del Cavallo and Venus’s pool. The coast here is very varied and rich of reddish colors typical of Vulcano island. Before coming back to port in Lipari we will have time for a last swim at the beach of Vinci. From here we can admire Vulcano’s crater with its fumaroles and its intense yellow, due to large concentrations of sulfur rocks. 17:00, it’s time to return to Lipari, before the petrol station closes! We moor back to Buona Fonda and we spend last evening together celebrating in the streets of Lipari. Last night on the boat, on Saturday morning the check-out is scheduled at 9:00.
